My Podcatcher
I have a long commute, so I bounce between audiobooks and podcasts. Here is what I listen to and why I think they are good. Let me know some of your favourites that I might like.
- Historical Hotties
URL: https://www.historicallyhot.com/
Hosted By: Whitney and Lindsey Nelsen
Description: This is a great way to learn about historical figures in a completely fun way. Whitney and Lindsey and occasional guests do some great research along the way.
- Hardcore History
URL: https://www.dancarlin.com/
Hosted By: Dan Carlin
Description: Dan does great research and his story telling is excellent. He takes you on some very long and in depth journeys about some of the darkest times in our past. I wish there were more but at the same time the effort that goes into each episode some of which are 4-5 hours long!
- Mission Log
URL: http://www.missionlogpodcast.com/
Hosted By: Ken Ray and John Champion
Description: Long time Star Trek fan, it's great to see them tackle a new episode every week and take it apart to discuss the serious and not so serious, while having a bit of fun along the way.
- SpyCast
URL: https://www.spymuseum.org/multimedia/spycast/
Hosted By: Dr. Vince Houghton
Description: This podcast interviews authors and espionage experts to bring a mix of fiction and non-fiction spy stories.
- Programming Throwdown
URL: https://www.programmingthrowdown.com/
Hosted By: Jason and Patrick
Description: I usually get enough code and systems design at work so it took me a while to find a fun podcast about it that introduced a range of topics but also has extra bits like Book Of The Show and Tool of The Show
- We Have A Technical
URL: http://www.idieyoudie.com/category/listening/we-have-a-technical/
Hosted By: Alex and Bruce
Description: Easiest way for me to find out the names and artists of some of the tracks I listen to and ways to find new Industrial, EBM and goth music.
- Cemetery Confessions
URL: http://www.thebelfry.rip/cemeteryconfessions/
Hosted By: The Count
Description: Only started listening to this recently but they discuss some interesting stuff relating to goth, music and lifestyle.
- EconTalk
URL: https://www.econtalk.org/
Hosted By: Russ Roberts
Description: I'm not an economics expert and sometimes the subjects are disheartening as society gets reduced to functions and numbers but Russ also doesn't agree with every guest as well. It's great to listen to these conversations, I think everyone learns from it.
- Embedded
URL: https://www.embedded.fm/
Hosted By: Elecia White, Christopher White
Description: Since I work with embedded devices and help run a maker space this podcast is great for learning about new topics from the interviews they do with developers and inventors. They have some fun along the way.
- Democracy Now
URL: https://www.democracynow.org/
Hosted By: Amy Goodman
Description: I used to think this was a very important podcast, and I suppose it still is, but for the past couple of years it is almost heartbreaking to listen to as this world seems to care less and less about freedom and participatory government. There are some successes along the way and this podcast also tells us about those as well.
